The story of Menolly was good, layered and exciting. Il se voit enseigner l’art des tambours. In the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America named McCaffrey its twenty-second Grand Master, an annual award to living writers of fantasy and science fiction. McCaffrey does manage to situate this story in the larger plot – something she failed to do in the last story – but this seems to come at the expense of the worldbuilding.
McCaffrey who wrote the White Dragon barely a year before this book, then can put Piemur on the Southern Continent and describe what happens to him after his voice broke, and also can focus more attention on the Oldtimers, Mirrim, and the fire lizards I thought this novel, without the keen focus on Menolly’s signing and music career, was not as good as the first two volumes in this trilogy, but it had its moments, and afterall what exactly were we going to learn about Menolly.

No one will miss your boyish treble more than I, lad, dragindrums possibly Domick, but here in the Harper Hall, some of us listen to other tunes and drum a different beat. But that’s a problem I have with this entire series: During the festivities at Benden Weyr, Piemur listens in on conversations about the holdless, before he falls asleep and is returned to the Harper Hall.
This is an amazing series and I’m so glad I discovered them again on Audible! Unfortunately, his theft of the fire lizard egg is discovered while he sleeps, and Dagondrums wakes to find people searching for him. Many things were not made clear. But Piemur is very far from having just this dragonsrums ability and Master Robinton knows how precious Piemur is.
I felt that more could have been done with the book and characters which left overall a little dissatified with the series. I think I would have understood and liked it a little more in the context of the whole series; I was reading the Harper Hall trilogy, but it looks like there’s another book— The White Dragon —that comes between Dragonsinger and Dragondrums.

Instead of freeing women mccaffrej this predicament – as might be the expected feminist direction – or confronting us with it and showing us the dark ramifications of this – as might be Ursula K. Unknown to him, the steps to the drumheights have been greased by the apprentices, and Piemur falls and knocks himself out as he runs up them.
McCaffrey views these three books as a trilogy or if the publisher decided to lump them together and advertise them as one. Instead, McCaffrey ends on a triumphant note, whether that note acts as resolution or not.
By the time the three children of her marriage were comfortably in school most of the day, she had already achieved enough success with short stories to devote full time to writing. Again, this is good for getting a lay of the land if you’re going to read the other Pern novels, but when I pick up the Harper Hall books for a reread, I frequently find myself leaving this one on the shelf.

Do you think that you can write a slow-moving, rather repetitive adventure story that lacks the resonance of the first two books in this tri Dear Mrs. Dirzan discovers this and punishes them, resulting in their bullying of Piemur becoming worse. This is another delightful adventure. I understand why this book disappoints a lot of readers.
Taking place three turns after the events of DragonsingerDragondrums opens with Piemur ‘s voice breaking as he prepares to sing the soprano role in a song recently written by Master Domick about Lessa ‘s journey to retrieve the Oldtimers.

The Dragon books were part of the network of books that introduced me in my teen years to fantasy and sci-fi and on re-reading them years later it is encouraging to find them still as well written as I remember them. I enjoyed this conclusion to the Harper Hall Trilogy despite the fact that Menolly isn’t the main character. Piemur is not even close to being fleshed out as a character and, due to this, does not have enough weight as a driving force for this story.

What a quality lady! In panic, Piemur climbs into a window near his hiding place leading into a locked storeroom, and hides himself inside a torn sack, where he falls asleep. Else rated it liked it. When Piemur’s clear treble voice changes, his place among mccfafrey Harpers is no longer certain.
